Tour Points & Qualification

UPF Tour Points measure sanctioned competitive accomplishment. They do not replace the UPF Rating and they do not measure raw playing ability.

Ability and Accomplishment Stay Separate

The UPF Rating determines competitive level. Competitive Class determines class-event eligibility. Tour Points measure what a player accomplishes in sanctioned competition at that level.

Points Come From Results

Tour Points are awarded from published event schedules based primarily on final placement and event status. Participation alone can carry limited value when the Tour rules provide for it, but meaningful advancement depends on competitive performance.

Class-Specific Tours

Class-sanctioned events award points to the Tour associated with that competitive class. Results earned in one class are not automatically treated as equivalent accomplishments in another class. Open and Combined events use their own published point structure.

Event Value

UPF can distinguish ordinary sanctioned events, designated Tour stops, regional events, Cups and major championships through published point schedules. Field size and event significance can affect the available points when those modifiers are declared in advance.

Standings and Seeding

Tour standings rank players by sanctioned accomplishment during the defined Tour period. A championship can use final Tour standings to determine qualification, seeding, byes or other published competitive advantages.

Qualification

A UPF championship can require the appropriate competitive class, active membership, a minimum amount of sanctioned activity, a qualifying Tour position, or a combination of those requirements. Qualification standards are published before the applicable Tour period closes.

Ties

Tour ties are resolved using a published hierarchy such as championship-level wins, best finishes, strength of sanctioned results, head-to-head results where applicable, and other objective criteria established for that Tour.

Promotion During a Tour

When a player earns promotion, prior accomplishments remain part of the permanent record. The Tour rules determine how current-season points are preserved, transferred or separated when a player moves into a higher competitive class. The guiding principle is that promotion is an achievement and should not create an incentive to resist accurate classification.

Auditability

Every point award remains linked to the underlying event, class, placement, field and published point schedule. If a result is corrected, affected Tour standings can be recalculated from the preserved source data.

UPF principle: Rating gets you to the Tour. Performance gets you to the championship.
